Bamboo clothing doesn't start in a studio. It starts with a plant that grows quickly, requires little extra water, and shoots up again from its roots after harvesting.
How does that strong plant turn into a soft fabric? We'll take you from bamboo stalk to finished garment.
1. The bamboo grows
Bamboo grows much faster than traditional trees and thrives in various climates. The plant primarily uses natural rainwater and requires little additional irrigation.
After harvesting, the root system remains in the soil. From there, the bamboo grows again. At the same time, the roots help stabilize the soil and limit erosion.
2. The plant is processed into pulp
The harvested bamboo is crushed and processed into cellulose pulp. This is the raw material from which the textile fibers are made.
Unfortunately, jumping straight from a hard bamboo stalk to a soft T-shirt only happens in very creative advertisements. There is a technical process in between.
3. From pulp to fiber and yarn
The cellulose pulp is dissolved and transformed into fine fibers. These fibers are then spun into yarn.
The chosen production method influences the quality and impact of the final result. That is why Bebambo not only looks at the plant, but the further processing and production partners also count.
4. The yarn becomes fabric
In Portugal, the yarn is processed into different fabrics. Think of a soft jersey for T-shirts or a more supple, elegant fabric for skirts, dresses, and blouses.
Each fabric has its own weight, structure, and drape. We choose the quality based on the garment we want to make.
5. We determine color and finish
Next, the fabric receives its color and finish. A good finish helps limit pilling and ensures the garment stays looking good for longer.
Here too, we seek the right balance between appearance, comfort, and longevity.
6. The garment takes shape
The studio creates the pattern, cuts the fabric, and stitches the various parts together. First, we develop a sample. We evaluate it for fit, length, comfort, and finish.
Only when all the details are just right do we start production.
The result
A soft, breathable, and comfortable garment developed with knowledge of material and production.
